History

Wat Tham Aphai Damrong Dham is on the Phu Phan range and belongs to the Dhammayut tradition of insight meditation. The area was once known locally as Phu Pha Lek, possibly because of iron ore in the ground. Local people said small stones would cling in clusters to a magnet placed on the soil, which led to the name Tham Phuang, or “Cluster Cave.”
