Wat Pratu Pong

History
The temple is on Pa Mai Road in Wiang Nuea Subdistrict. Its chedi and viharn were built in B.E. 2409 by Chao Yanrangsi, ruler of Lampang. The ordination hall was made by artisans from Xishuangbanna and combines Chinese decorative art. The temple’s historical features include the old city gate, Pratu Pong, and remains of a watchtower from the period when Phraya Kawila ruled Lampang. The tower served as a defensive position during a major Burmese attack in B.E. 2330. A Burmese force that besieged the city camped to its north, about 8 km from the city.
