History

Located in Ban Nong Pho, the temple was once an abandoned Ayutthaya-era site and was rebuilt in 1931. A large Bodhi tree with seven spreading branches gave rise to the name Wat Somphot Pho Krachai; it was later called Wat Somphot Pho Yen. After Somdet Phra Maha Samana Chao Krom Phraya Vajirananavarorasa visited to inspect the Nakhon Sawan monastic region, he ordered the temple renamed Wat Nong Pho after the village.
