Wat Mahathat is in the municipal area on Sunthon Wichit Road. It houses Phrathat Nakhon, a square structure about 5.85 metres wide and 24 metres tall. The source attributes its construction to Phraya Maha Ammat (Pom), a senior commander who came from Vientiane. The site also has a notably old and beautiful ordination hall.
