Wat Mahathat Worawiharn

History
Wat Mahathat Worawiharn is one of Phetchaburi’s most important temples. It is believed to date to the Dvaravati period because many artifacts from that era were found on the temple grounds. It may once have been a royal monastery before being abandoned. During King Rama VI’s reign, the temple was restored and granted royal monastery status again in B.E. 2459.
