Wat Lam Phaya Floating Market

History
Wat Lam Phaya Floating Market is in Lam Phaya Subdistrict, in front of Wat Lam Phaya on the Nakhon Chai Si (Tha Chin) River. “Lam Phraya” was once the village’s name when the area was part of Bang Pla District in Monthon Nakhon Chai Si. Local history says that during King Rama V’s reign, Phaya Krom Tha dug a canal behind the present market to open land for rice cultivation. Mon migrants from Sam Khok who arrived late in King Rama III’s reign settled on the west bank and farmed; Chinese residents on the east bank traded. The area became a riverside market.
