The bridge was built while General Prem Tinsulanonda was prime minister. Local people commonly call it “Tinsulanond Bridge” or “Pa Prem Bridge.” Construction began on 26 March 1984 (B.E. 2527), and the bridge was officially opened on 25 September 1986 (B.E. 2529).
