Phrathat Chedi Luang

History
Located in Wiang Subdistrict beside the Chiang Saen National Museum, Phrathat Chedi Luang is described as the oldest and largest temple in Chiang Saen. King Saen Phu, grandson of King Mengrai and the first king of the Lanna Kingdom, built it in B.E. 1887, during the 19th Buddhist century, to enshrine the Buddha’s relics. Later, King Mueang Kaeo ordered the original chedi foundation to be removed and a new chedi built in B.E. 2058.
