It is a project of the King Rama II Memorial Foundation under Royal Patronage, created to honour King Rama II for leaving the nation a legacy of beautiful art and culture. UNESCO recognised him as a Person of World Importance in Literature. Phra Ratchasamutthamedhi, abbot of Wat Amphawan Chediyaram, offered the 34-rai site for the park.
