Heroes of Khai Bang Rachan Monument and Khai Bang Rachan Park
History
The park covers 115 rai in Bang Rachan Subdistrict and includes an arboretum and a monument to the 11 heroes of Khai Bang Rachan, with sculptures made by the Fine Arts Department. The leaders named in the account are Nai Thaen, Nai In, Nai Mueang, Nai Chot, Nai Dok Mai, Nai Thong Kaeo, Khun San Sapphakit, Nai Phan Rueang, Nai Thong Daeng Yai, Nai Chan Khiao (Nai Chan Nuat Khiao), and Nai Thong Men. In the third lunar month of the Year of the Rooster, B.E. 2308 (1765), villagers joined forces against a much larger enemy army. The enemy attacked eight times over five months before defeating the village on Monday, the waning second day of the eighth lunar month in the Year of the Dog, B.E. 2309 (1766). The site is an important historical monument.
