Web Development 101, Episode 1 from mikelopster, introduces the parts that work together when someone visits a website. It is a beginner overview rather than a current, step-by-step build tutorial.
From a browser request to a web page
A user enters a domain such as shopee.com in a browser. DNS looks up the domain’s IP address, the browser sends a request to a server, and the server returns files and data that the browser displays. The 3 core browser-facing technologies are HTML for page structure, CSS for presentation and JavaScript for interactive behaviour.
Client, server and data
The browser is the client: it displays what the user sees. A web server receives requests and sends responses. Back-end languages such as PHP, Python or Node.js can process application logic and work with a database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL. An API lets software exchange data; JavaScript can call an API from a page, while a back end can create API endpoints that read from a database.
What the series plans to cover
The episode previews HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, back-end servers, MySQL, the difference between development and deployment, and tools such as VS Code. It also points learners to W3Schools and Codecademy. Its setup tips include creating a project folder and turning on Auto Save.
